To Be A Christian #2, What is the Bible?

To Be A Christian #2
What is the Bible?
Ephesians 6:11-18
By: Joseph Ball

  1. 1.0: 06/14/2015

To be a Christian, we first must be saved, which means:

I. Confess  Your Sins.

II. Forsake  Your Sins.

III. Believing  In Christ and living for Him.

After becoming a Christian, we have to live like a Christian.  What does it mean to live like a Christian?

To live like a Christian we must first know the Instructor, and the Instructions.

The Instructor is God.

The Instructions is the Bible.

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”
(Eph 6:11-18)

Scriptures:

I. The Book of Ages:

For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
(Psa 119:89-90)

The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
(Isa 40:7-8)

II. Food For the Soul:

And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
(Deu 8:3)

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
(Job 23:10-12)

I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
(Psa 119:102-103)

III. Light For Life:

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
(Psa 19:7-10)

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.
(Psa 119:105-106)

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
(Pro 6:23)
IV. A Lot More:

God’s Word and Instruction:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
(2Ti 3:16)
A Devouring Flame:
Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
(Jer 23:29)
Saving Power:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
(Rom 1:16)
Defensive Weapon:
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
(Eph 6:17)

To live as a Christian we have to know what we are expected to live by, and you can get a perfect understanding of the requirements of the Christian life through God's Word, the Bible.  The Bible is the most powerful single book in all of time and space, has been the best selling book since the creation of modern printing, has been translated into more languages than any other book, and more well preserved in it's entirety than any other book, even some excellent literary masterpieces that are much, much newer than the Bible.  The Bible is God's Word, and the ultimate authority in our lives on what is right and wrong.  For the Christian it is like a roadmap, a guidebook, a treasure trove of truth, the most precious word we can find.  Once you become a Christian, you should begin with reading the Bible.  Best place to start?  That would be the Gospels, Matthew through John, where it talks about Who Jesus is and what He has done.
